What is an A rated boiler?

A rated boiler refers to the Seasonal Efficiency of Domestic Boilers in the UK (SEDBUK ) Boiler Efficiency Rating.

An A rated boilers are the most efficient, with efficiency at 90 percent or higher. All A rated boilers have a stamp of approval from the Energy Saving Trust.

Previously SEDBUK boiler efficiency was rated on a scale from A to G with A being the most energy efficient. However, to simplify the rating, the boiler rating was changed to a percentage number. The higher accuracy of percentages helps to reduce confusion with the EU energy label which uses similar ratings based on different principles.

The boiler energy efficiency rating is calculated using the average efficiency achieved in typical domestic conditions per year. Including all the different temperatures, the different types of use, options on the boiler controls and all other inputs you might expect in an average UK household.
